I was lucky enough to listen to Me And My Drummer live last Friday at Kino Šiška. I also did an interview with them, so make sure you check that out, because Charlotte and Matze are absolutely lovely and oh-so-inspiring. My friend Jani (thank you!) snapped these great shots that I can't stop looking at since they really reflect the atmosphere during the gig.
What was it like? It was an hour and a half of pretty alt-pop, filled with powerful percussions and delicate vocals. I can't forget the gentle synth building up to brilliant crescendos, and Charlotte Brandi's vocals sounding hauntingly gorgeous. After the gentle synth-pop of the first few songs, there was a definite change: as Charlotte was singing "Cool me down, don't be so hot" there was a darker touch to everything, the synth was replaced by the tinkling piano and male (Matze's) vocals added to a delicate, intimate soundscape that gave way to powerful outbursts, followed by slow fading to nothingness. I tell you, Charlotte's interpretation and her voice with its high dynamic range are a generator of goosebumps! I also have to mention that, considering the small concert hall, the sound was perfect; so kudos to the sound team!
What a voice, what a drummer, what a phenomenal duo!
